East Village's Hilton Hotel

The proposed Hilton Hotel in East Village
On May 8th, 2012, the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation announced that a Hilton Hotel will be coming to East Village. The Hotel was the third major land deal to be established in East Village and the first major land deal to be entirely commercial.

Guests will be able to choose which brand will accommodate them in this 208,000 sq. ft., 14-storey, 315-room, dual-brand hotel; Hilton Garden Inn or Homewood Inn and Suits. Each facility will have a private lobby and will offer its own special services but some amenities will be shared; a south-facing rooftop terrace, fitness centre, laundry services, a pool, a library and convention services, as well as two levels of underground parking.

Hilton Hotel seems to fit in East Village
The hotel is being developed by Widewaters Group, a real-estate development company with projects throughout the United States and Canada. Ed Shagen, the company's Director of Development, is very excited about being a part of Calgary and East Village; "we view Calgary as a young, dynamic city... we chose to invest in East Village because we could see its potential as both a tourist destination and a new commercial core for Calgary; we're thrilled to be part of the team", said Shagen when the announcement was made approx. 9 months ago.

Location, Location, Location!!!
City Hall to the west; St. Louis Hotel to the south;
East Village to the north and east
Currently, the space provide
parking spaces
There is little - if any- surprise that a project in this magnitude is coming to East Village. As they say "Location, location, location"; the south-west corner of 4th st. and 7th ave. SE (free space which currently acts as a parking lot), will provide nothing but benefits to hotel guests; quick and easy access to Calgary's Downtown Core; walking distance to the Bow River and the RiverWalk; proximity to the Stampede Grounds through the 4th st. SE underpass as well as to the up-and-coming new National Music Centre which will be connected to the King Eddy's; neighbouring the new Central Library; not to mention all the amenities, entertainment and services that will have a home in East Village; and for a sense of heritage, there's the old St. Louis hotel to the south.

The Bow Building indicates proximity to Downtown

Project is currently under the final stages of development and is set to break ground sometime in the second quarter of 2013.
