Winter Olympics Anniversary

Winter is here. It's cold and white and there isn't a lot going on in the East Village and the surrounding area. East Village Free Press decided, just this once, to go outside of the EV neighbourhood in order to share something awesome; in this coming February, there will be two special anniversaries in Canada Olympic Park:
1) 25th Anniversary of the '88 Winter Olympic Games which took place in Calgary
2) 20th Anniversary of the '93 movie "Cool Runnings" which was made about the Olympics and filmed in Calgary. If one is familiar with Calgary, it's easy to recognize some of the locations; COP and Stanley Park to name a couple.

Here is a bit more about the two events:
1) On February 13th - a Wednesday - there will be the Opening Ceremonies for "Alberta's 55 Plus Winter Games".  The Ceremonies will mark the exact kick-off date of the  '88 Winter Olympic Games.

2) To celebrate 20th Anniversary of "Cool Runnings", the movie will have two unique screenings; the first one will be a Gala evening on February 2nd - a Saturday. Attendance will include the four main actors from "Cool Runnings", 2 athletes from the Jamaican bobsled team and other local athletes. The Gala will take place at Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and will offer a chance for guests to interact with the film guests. The second screening will be in the form of a Red Carpet event at the Globe Theatre (617 8th Avenue, SW) and will be open for the public. The event will also include a Q & A with the film guests.

For those of you who are not too familiar with the movie, EV Free Press suggests to become familiar and enjoy the opportunity of such a unique experience as will be coming to Calgary in February.
