New Central Library Design Revealed

On Thursday, September 4th 2014, the design of Calgary's new Central Library was revealed to the world.
The site is located just east of City Hall and construction is set to be completed in 2018.. seems like with the anticipation of locals and the fast development of East Village - it cannot be sooner!

Coming to us from a collaboration between the Norwegian Snøhetta and the local DIALOG, the Library won't be just another building but a symbolic one as well: It will be a connection between EV community and Downtown Calgary, via a link that arches above the LRT tracks. Within the four-storey structure we can expect activity and meeting spaces at the lower level; a theatre in the area where the floor gets low in line with the C-Train tunnel; a skylight that will spread natural light throughout all the entire building.
Trying to be as 'future-proof' as possible the design shows no basement, as well as a structure that will be built quite above the flood plain.

It will be a place for people to gather, to read, to have fun, to learn and of course - READ!

Anyways, this is it...
